About Dr. Jeanne Drisko, MD

Jeanne Drisko, MD is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Internal Medicine at University of Kansas Medical Center. During her previous tenure as director of KU Integrative Medicine, she conducted translational research and provided patient care, education, and service to the region and the nation.

Dr. Drisko’s ongoing research agenda includes trials in intravenous vitamin C, chelation therapy, and dietary interventions with publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. Examples of her service include serving on the committee at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to investigate integrative medicine use by the American public; lobbying for and securing naturopathic licensing in the State of Kansas; and chairing the committee at the Kansas Board of Healing Arts to write rules and regulations for the naturopathic practice act.

Patient care at KU Integrative Medicine was delivered by a robust interprofessional team trained in integrative medicine and made up of medical doctors, an advanced practice nurse, naturopathic doctors, nutritionists, physician assistants, a psychologist, and a neurofeedback technologist. Comprehensive patient care included extensive clinic visit times, micronutrient testing and intervention, patient coaching and education, neurofeedback, acupuncture, and infusion clinic services with patients traveling from all around the world to become patients. The most important aspect of KU Integrative Medicine was the integrative medicine education agenda with students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, nutrition and dietetics, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and naturopathic schools completing rotations in the division.

In 2008, Dr. Drisko developed an integrative medicine fellowship for MD primary care providers with a certificate granted at successful completion by the Graduate Medical Education Office at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Of importance was the creation of the integrative nutrition program for master’s level dieticians, co-developed and taught with the KU Department of Dietetics and Nutrition and dieticians in KU Integrative Medicine. Master’s degrees in integrative nutrition were granted to the graduates.

Dr. Drisko also taught at the national level by developing CME conferences for KUMC, American College for the Advancement of Medicine, and the Institute of Functional Medicine. She was also invited to lecture across the globe.

Since stepping down as clinic director in 2018, Dr. Drisko is passionately devoting her time to research, scholarly writing, and education.
